Attitude of Gratitude

The holiday season is approaching quickly, and we’re bracing for all the travel, traditions, and too many treats that come with it.

It’s also a good time to appreciate the people who make our lives a little better. From the colleagues who have our backs and clients we click with to family and friends (chosen or otherwise), there’s plenty to be thankful for.

So, strap on your stretchy pants and dig into a few things we’re grateful for right now.

Whether you know the name Richard Avedon or not, you've certainly seen his work. From glamorous fashion photographs to striking portraits of cultural icons and everyday workers, his images changed how we see a subject through a camera lens.

In Avedon, director Ron Howard explores the brilliant and sometimes complicated creative mind behind the photographs. With unprecedented access to Avedon's archives, including never-before-seen images and behind-the-scenes footage, the documentary promises a rare look at his relentless pursuit of the perfect photograph.

Premiering November 11 on Netflix, it's one we're particularly excited to watch.

Before Ryan Gosling saved jazz in La La Land, pianist and composer Vince Guaraldi had been winning hearts for decades with his unmistakable sound. Best known for his signature soundtracks behind the Charlie Brown holiday specials, his talents extended far beyond boogieing with Lucy and Linus.

Blending Latin, jazz, and pop, Guaraldi's upbeat yet low-key melodies bring joy and nostalgia to listeners of all ages, making them the perfect soundtrack for your next multigenerational gathering.

Tasked with bringing a side dish but your oven hasn’t seen the light of day in years? Don’t panic. This cranberry orange conserve by Chef Tyler Florence is an elevated take on the old-school canned cranberry sauce we know and love. Fresh ginger, oranges, and toasted hazelnuts bring plenty of holiday flavor.

A favorite of our Creative Director, Kristi, you know this recipe is a winner by the amount of schmutz (and produce barcode stickers) on the paper, evidence of years of Thanksgiving duty. Give it a try; those awkward family conversations can’t happen with your mouths full.

Give yourself some credit. No, seriously.

As creative business owners, we're really good at listing everything that needs improving. Yet, we rarely stop to give ourselves a good old high five!

Which is why I start every monthly coaching or Quarterly Ass-Kicking session by asking my clients to share some wins. Personal or professional, big or small, they all count. With my signature tough love, they need to share at least three before we move on. Some (Type-A) clients come prepared, while others need a little convincing before admitting, “Hey, yeah, that was a win!”

I have to say, I become a proud stage mom. The longer we work together, the longer their lists get. Seeing their progress and knowing I've played a part in it? Well, that fills my gratitude bucket.

So, what are three wins you're thankful for? Send them to me. No, seriously!

P.S. Spark Sessions return Wednesday, November 18! Have something on your mind that could use a fresh perspective? Let's talk.
